In today’s world, designing a website is not as easy as placing content onto an HTML page, it requires a level of complexity that is unprecedented. The design is crucial in ensuring that your website is responsive and in order for people to use and enjoy using your site, it must be exactly that; responsive.
As we have discussed on other pages, grid based layouts are crucial in creating a responsive web page and/ or site. Simply put and as you would imagine, this layout is a series of rectangles that outline where the various components of the page can or should go. The layout makes it easier to scale pages.
This scaling comes in handy when we consider that websites are viewed on different devices with different screen sizes. Grids allow us to view the exact same site regardless of what device we choose to use to view it. These layouts replace the need for several different fixed size layouts (i.e. one for desktop, one for mobile, one for tablet, etc.)
Being aware that the design and layout can be modified to help and to maximize the responsiveness of a site will help you prevent future issues or problems with the end result and with the level of responsiveness across different devices.
Some developers and designers are taking it one step further and are actually taking a mobile first design approach whereby they are starting by creating a site that has the mobile user in mind and then is developed from there to fit larger screens. This helps stay ahead of the curve and ensure, without a doubt, that users receive and enjoyable experience when they visit your site on their phone as well as their desktop, tablet or both. This is an intelligent approach to staying relevant and will help you prevent issues down the line.
